Antique Chapter Annual Tour 2015
Chasing Billy Miner
July 6 - 9, 2015
 Quilchena, B.C.

This is going to be a unique and memorable tour.  From July 6 - 9, members of the Antique Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada and the Vancouver Regional Group of the Horseless Carriage Club of America will re-trace the footsteps of B.C.'s most notorious train robber - Billy Miner

In 1906 Billy Miner held up a CPR train just east of Kamloops.  He and his men fled but were hunted down by the Northwest Mounted Police and captured along the route now known as the Douglas Lake Road.  After being returned to Kamloops for a court date, Miner was convicted and sent to the B.C Penitentiary in New Westminster.  Although he was sentenced to 25 years, he escaped in 1907 and fled to the United States.  There he resumed his career of holding up banks and trains.

On this tour we will visit the site where Billy Miner held up the CPR train, and then follow the route of his escape.  We will drive the seldom used Douglas Lake Road, about 25 miles of which is unpaved, but in good condition.  Our tour guide will be Alex Forbes, a noted historian and Billy Miner expert.

We will spend two nights in the historic Quilchena Lodge, which was built in 1908 and still maintains its Edwardian decor and charm.  This tour is shaping up to be interesting, scenic, informative and of course great fun!  The Douglas Lake drive will provide a bit of a challenge for those who like to get out of the traffic and off the beaten track.  Look below for more information and a registration form.

The Quilchena Lodge has 16 rooms of varying sizes.  Six of the rooms share two bathrooms and are much cheaper than the others.  Our tour has booked the entire hotel for July 6 and July 8, so the atmosphere will be charged will the "Billy Miner buzz"!
