What a great weekend!
Ken & Chris Findlay and George & Doris Hoffman planned a full
weekend based out of Aldergrove, B.C. About thirty-five cars attended,
representing Alberta, Oregon, and Washington as well as all over
southern British Columbia.
This tour included just about everything and took us all over the
eastern Fraser Valley. The scenery was beautiful and the sights
were most interesting for all. On Friday we took the Albion
Ferry across the Fraser River and visited the historic Stave Falls
Dam. Since being closed in the early 2000s, the old powerhouse
has been converted to an interactive Visitors Centre. It was a
very wet day, but the drive was excellent nonetheless.
The next day broke clear and sunny as we all headed off for a
homecooked farm breakfast at Aldor Acres, an 80 acre hobby farm run by
the Anderson family. After breakfast we were off again, headed
for the Achelitz Threshing Association's museum in Chilliwack,
B.C. The route presented us with two very challenging uphill
stretches which were conquered by every car, although a few passengers
had to walk the last leg of one of the hills!
Sunday morning offered an optional tour to the Museum of Flight in
Langley, again in beautiful sunshine. At the museum we viewed a
good collection of aviation artifacts and even got to pose the cars
alongside a WW2 Harvard for pictures. The Harvard still flies on
special occasions.
Many thanks to the Findlays and the Hoffmans for a well organized
event, to Fred and Trudy Dunn for driving the trouble truck, and to all
those who participated and helped make the tour a great
place to be. Everyone is looking forward to next year's tour in
Salmon Arm, B.C.
