June Tour 2010
Prowlin' Princeton
June 17 - 20, 2010
Prowlin' Princeton
was a weekend of exploring the scenic backroads of the Princeton
area. Twenty-nine cars attended and the weather cooperated most
of the time.
Friday's tour took the group along the Princeton-Summerland Road as far
as the Silver Cloud Ranch. There the group was treated to a most
interesting presentation about the Peruvian stallions that are bred
there. Owner Lyslie Remme was very kind to host the first stop of
the day and put on the show for us. After lunch at the Legion
Hall back in Princeton, the afternoon drive took us through Coalmont
and into Tulameen, two historic mining towns. The drive featured
some pretty big hills - big enough to knock two cars out of
commission. Sorry, guys!
Saturday's toured was much more leisurely, following the Similkameen
River to Keremeos. Lunch was put on by the South Okanagan Chapter
(thanks Marcel and Angie) before a visit to the amazing collection of
Ken Helms. In his orchard is twenty years of collecting just
about anything and it is quite a sight to see.
Sunday morning featured a short drive, a quick garage tour, and a nice
Father's Day pancake breakfast at the Seniors' Centre. Then it
was time to pack up and head home. Four of the cars (1911 Rolls
and three Model Ts) drove the distance from the coast and back.
Way to go, guys!
Thanks to the town of Princeton for welcoming us so warmly and to the
tour committee for their work in organizing this weekend. It was a lot of fun for everyone.
