Bow, Washington
June 12 - 15, 2014
The 32nd annual Antique Chapter June Tour was
held in Bow, Washington. It was the first time the tour
had been held in the USA. Twenty-three cars attended,
although two never made it out of the parking lot. The
tour was noteworthy for some poor weather, lots of great food,
and outstanding drives.
Friday's drive covered about 80 miles and took
us around Lake Whatcom, north to Lynden, Washington, and
returned via the scenic Chuckanut Drive. After a wet morning,
things dried out pretty well and it was a terrific
drive. Along the way we stopped at the Lynden Museum
(very interesting) and at a local private collection of
brass-era vehicles.
Saturday we headed east along the north side of
the Skagit River as far as the town of Concrete. Stops
included another amazing private collection and the Challenger
Ridge Winery. An excellent lunch was provided by the nice
folks at 5Bs Bakery. The return route took us to the
Baker River salmon ladder and then along the south side of the
Skagit River. It was a beautiful drive with little
traffic to slow us down. After a final stop to view
historic farm equipment, we completed another 80 mile day.
The tour wrapped up on Sunday morning with a
short drive and a coffee stop in the small town of
Edison. It was a quiet weekend for Dave and Elaine Ellis
in the trouble truck - we completed almost 200 miles of
touring without putting a single car on the trailer.
At Saturday's banquet, after a great meal, the
Hard Luck trophy was presented to Michael Leedham (1913
Peerless) and the People's Choice Award to Dan Findlay and
Samantha Shepherd (1909 Renault).
Many thanks go to tour organizers Ken and Chris
Findlay and Peter and Teresa Findlay. It was generally
agreed that this tour would be worth repeating - on a sunny
weekend!
