June 23 - 26, 2019
Enderby, B.C.
The 2019 June Tour was well named, as it did
indeed find some less travelled roads. About 18 cars and
50 people gathered in the small town of Enderby for the three
days and everyone had a great time. The tour covered
about 250 miles with a lot of ups and downs and twists and
turns.
Sunday was arrival day and included a short run
to "The Crystal Man" gallery. All sorts of rocks,
minerals, and gems were available there and the drive was just
about right for a warmup run.
Monday's drive headed south toward Vernon with
a lunch and tour stop at Davison Orchards. This was a
most interesting stop as the tour guide described the history
and details of the family run operation. After lunch the
group toured past Okanagan Lake and Kalamalka Lake before
heading north toward Enderby. The afternoon stop was at
The Village Cheese Factory in Armstrong, where we learned
about cheese production and enjoyed apple pie and ice cream.
Monday evening a few cars came out for a short
gaslight run. It was quite fun to cruise the back road
behind the hotel with the gas lamps lit up.
Tuesday's drive headed north to Salmon Arm,
with a morning stop at Haney Heritage Park. There the
cars were lined up on the main street of the restored town and
everyone had time to explore the site. After that it was
on to a short tour north of the city and a huge lunch at Yan's
Restaurant. The afternoon drive went through the scenic
Salmon River valley with a stop at the tiny community of
Silver Creek. Dinner was at the Farmstrong Cidery, where
we were treated to a great meal and a tour of the facility.
Dinner was served in the carefully restored 1890s barn.
Wednesday morning's drive headed east, then
looped around back toward Armstrong for a stop at a terrific
private collection. All kinds of vehicles and machines
kept everyone interested. In the shop was a 1919
Millburn electric begin restored. From there the group
headed to Falkland for lunch at the Falkland Pub. After
lunch we headed to the rodeo grounds for some crazy car games
including: The NBA Challenge (Bean Bag Toss), What's all
That Racket? (Tennis Racket / Ball Balance), Show Me the Way
(Blindfold Race) and Let's Stop For a Cone (Backing Up Race).
It was a lot of fun.
Wednesday night was the final banquet and a
short program. The 1913 Ford Firetruck was awarded The
People's Choice Award and, amazingly, there was really no
candidate for The Hard Luck Award. Not one car ended up
on the trouble trailer on this tour. In a light hearted
move, the award went to the 1916 Ford Roadster for a seat pin
that popped and tore a hole in the seat of the driver's pants.
By all accounts it was an interesting and
enjoyable tour, hosted by Peter and Teresa Findlay, with help
from Neil Dorey.
